A YOUNG MOTHER’S DREAM OF MOVING FROM A CASUAL LABORER TO AN EMPLOYER
Colleta Mwende aged 20 is one of the young vulnerable mothers from DeepSea slum in Parklands, Nairobi Area, Kenya who have enrolled into the Stars project. She is a mother of one and is not married. She earns money from engaging in casual work of washing clothes for other people.
At her tender age, she says she’s faced by lack of a good job that earns her enough money to cater for her needs and that of her baby.

Her dream is to own a salon. And even as she is now 4 weeks into the business training, she has put down a plan of how she’s going to actualize her dream. ” The training has really opened and activated my mind.I love the training on how to save especially through the group’s merry go round. I will use the money I get from the merry go round to start a business of selling boiled eggs. I’m sure the business will do good and I will save part of the money to enable me start the salon business.”

YTEDC through the Stars program is supporting young vulnerable mothers like Colleta by training them on how to move from been employees to employers and helping them regain their dignity by improving on their confidence.

The Stars project is supported by The Links,Inc.
